Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made wholesale changes to their squad for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Shreyas Iyer has been named captain of the franchise and will be looking to do well in the upcoming IPL season. Two-time Champions will be hoping that they can kick-start on a positive note.

England opener Alex Hales has opted out of the competition due to bio-bubble fatigue. The franchise have notable acquisitions in Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins, Aaron Finch, Sam Billings, Mohammad Nabi, Chamika Karunaratne and Tim Southee for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League.

Shreyas Iyer led-unit will be looking to get off to good start when they take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of the competition. Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy are the four players retained by the franchise for the fifteenth edition of Indian Premier League.

Shreyas Iyer

Middle-order batsman will be looking to lead from the front with the bat in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League. Last year, Shreyas Iyer suffered from a shoulder injury and played a handful of games for Delhi Capitals. A good season could see Shreyas Iyer being drafted into the World Cup squad for Australia this year.

After being named captain of the franchise, Shreyas Iyer will be keen to make an impact with the bat in the fifteenth edition of Indian Premier League. During his time at Delhi Capitals, Shreyas Iyer showed excellent leadership skills and helped Delhi Capitals deliver positive results on the field. The team management will be hoping for the same with Iyer being named captain of Kolkata Knight Riders.

Andre Russell

All-rounder Andre Russell is proven match-winner with the bat and ball in the T20 format. He has the ability to change the complexion of the game in a space of few overs. Russell has a mind-boggling strike rate of 169.80 in T20Is and also has a knack of delivering fiery spells with the new-ball. Russell will be determined to do well with bat and ball in this year’s competition.

Last year, he scored close to 200 runs and claimed 11 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders. He has been proven performer for Kolkata Knight Riders and has won them games from impossible situations. The only issue for Russell will be to maintain his fitness as he will keen to make an impact for KKR this season.

Varun Chakravarthy

Mystery spinner will be keen to do well for the franchise in this year’s Indian Premier League. Last year, Varun Chakravarthy was instrumental with the ball and helped Kolkata Knight Riders reach the finals of Indian Premier League. Due to his stellar performances last season, Chakravarthy was picked as lead spinner in India’s squad for 2021 ICC T20 World Cup played in the UAE.

Last season, he claimed 18 wickets in 17 games to see Kolkata Knight Riders qualify for the finals of the competition. The leg-spinner will be looking to do well with the ball for KKR in this year’s competition.
