Three England batsman to watch out for in 2022 Basil D’Oliveira Trophy

After completing their successful whitewash over New Zealand and winning fifth Test against India, England will be looking to looking to maintain their dominance in home conditions.Ben Stokes will lead the side for three-match Test series against South Africa.

In the most anticipated series of the year, England will take South Africa in a four-match Test series, which is slated to begin from 17th August at Lords.

The three-match series over the course of 33 days will be an exciting battle between both teams. Before the start of the Test series, we will look in detail the three batsmen to watch out for England against South Africa.

Joe Root

First up in the list is the best batsman in the world in the five-day format- Joe Root. The premier batsman will be keen to make an impact with the bat for England in this three-match Test series.

Since 1st August, Joe Root has topped the batting charts for England in the five-day format. In 27 Test matches played for England, Root has accumulated 2,729 runs at an average of 59.32 with eleven centuries and five half-centuries to his name.

The team management will be hoping that Root can deliver his absolute best in this four-match series. The 31-year old will take heart from the fact that he has an excellent record against South Africa.

In 12 Test matches, Joe Root has accumulated 1,164 runs at an average of 52.90 with two centuries and nine half-centuries to his name.

Jonny Bairstow

The next in the list is England’s Jonny Bairstow, who is currently hit a purple patch with the bat in the five-day format. The 32-year old has represented his country in 87 Tests, where he has scored 5,415 runs at an average of 37.34 with the help of twelve centuries and twenty-three half-centuries.

In the Test matches played against South Africa, Jonny Bairstow has produced excellent numbers with the bat. In 10 Tests, Jonny Bairstow has accumulated 848 runs at an average of 49.88 with one century and six half-centuries to his name.

Jonny Bairstow will be looking to continue his rich vein of form with the bat in the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa.

Ben Stokes

Third in the list features Test captain Ben Stokes, who will be looking to get back amongst the runs in this upcoming three-match series against South Africa.

The 31-year-old has gone through a quiet phase with the bat in the five-day format. Recently, Stokes retired from one-day cricket to prolong his red-ball career for England.

This year, Ben Stokes showed decent form with the bat in the five-day format and accumulated 548 runs at an average of 36.53 with one century and four half-centuries to his name.

Stokes will take heart from the fact that he has excellent record against South Africa in the five-day format.  In 12 Tests played against Proteas, Ben Stokes has scored 1,028 runs at an average of 46.72, which includes three centuries and four half-centuries to his name.

It will be interesting how these three England batsmen fare against South Africa’s world class unit comprising of Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi.
