Sri Lanka is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in the month of May to play three-match ODI series, starting from 23rd May at Shere Bangla National Cricket in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Cricket Board have announced their 23-member preliminary squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Opener Tamim Iqbal will lead the side for the three-match ODI series.
Uncapped pacer Shohidul Islam and opener Imrul Kayes have been included in the preliminary squad. The onus will be on the experienced players to deliver the goods with bat and ball for Bangladesh. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and pacer Mustafizur Rahman will be looking to get back in time for ODI series after IPL was cancelled due to rising covid-19 cases among various franchises.
For Bangladesh, the onus will be on the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim to deliver the bulk of the runs.
Since August 2019, opener Tamim Iqbal is leading the batting charts for Bangladesh in limited-overs cricket. He has scored close to 600 runs with two centuries and three half-centuries to his name.
Besides, Iqbal’s opening partner, Liton Das has shown excellent form and averaging 48.37 during this period.
Mahmudullah have decent reasonably well for Bangladesh in the past 18 months. He has scored 268 runs in nine innings at an average of 53.40 with two half-centuries to his name. He will be looking to continue his decent form with the bat.
Given his struggles in recent times, wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim will be looking to make an impact with the bat in the three-match ODI series.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraaz to deliver crucial breakthroughs.
Bangladesh’s premier pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, is currently leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh in the limited-overs cricket since August 2019. Left-arm medium-pacer has claimed eleven wickets at an average of 26.18.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka have yet to their name their limited-overs squad for the three-match series. It is expected that Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the side for this ODI series against Bangladesh.
Earlier in the month of March, Sri Lanka suffered a 3-0 whitewash at the hands of West Indies in the one-day series played in Caribbean.
Since August 2019, Sri Lanka have struggled to deliver positive results in white-ball cricket and managed to win only three matches out of eight played.
For Sri Lanka, rookie batsman Pathum Nissanka, Danushka Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne to lead the way in the batting department.
In the West Indies, Danushka Gunathilaka has shown excellent form with the bat. In five innings, Left-hander has accumulated 334 runs at an average of 66.80 with one century and two half-centuries to his name.
Besides, the experienced players like Angelo Matthews, Kusal Perera and Dinesh Chandimal will have to do more for Sri Lanka to break their losing streak in white-ball cricket.
Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis are prominent all-rounders included in Sri Lanka’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.
All three matches will be played at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on 23rd, 25th and 28th March respectively.
