The 15th edition of Indian Premier League will begin from 26th March in India. After clinching the IPL trophy for the fourth time, Chennai Super Kings will be looking to successfully defend their crown.
Skipper MS Dhoni will be hoping that the franchise can do well in this year’s competition.
Chennai Super Kings have lifted the coveted IPL trophy on four occasions in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 20121.They also are the only franchise to make it to the finals on nine occasions.
Chennai Super Kings retained Captain MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaekwad are four players retained by the franchise for the coming season.
The franchise did go for overseas players in 2022 IPL auction as they clearly went for players that are currently playing the T20 format. Adam Milne, Deepak Chahar, Chris Jordan, Mahesh Theekshana and Devon Conway are notable acquisitions made by the franchise for the coming season.
Indian medium-pacer Deepak Chahar turned out to be Chennai’s biggest acquisition as he was picked up for Rs 14 crores during 2022 IPL Auction.
Ruturaj Gaekwad, MS Dhoni and Devon Conway are three premier players in the batting department. Former Indian batsman, Robin Uthappa has been bankable performer for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batsman put in decent contributions in the knockout stages to help Chennai clinch the fourth IPL trophy.
Last year, Opener Ruturaj Gaekwad was the standout performer in the batting department. He finished the competition as the leading run-scorer in the competition. The right-handed batsman accumulated 633 runs in 16 innings at an average of 45.35 with a strike rate of 136.26, which includes one century and four half-centuries to his name.
Chennai Super Kings have top-quality all-rounders at their disposal with Ravindra Jadeja, Dwaine Pretorius, Moeen Ali, and Dwayne Bravo included in the squad for the 15th edition of the league.
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali will be looking to deliver his best with bat and ball.
Chennai Super Kings team management have also picked players who have a credible experience at the international stage.
Players to watch out for
Opener Ruturaj Gaekwad has been a lynchpin in Chennai’s star-studded batting lineup. The right-handed accumulated close to 650 runs in the previous edition of the league. The team management will be hoping that Gaekwad can get Chennai off to a good starts. It will be interesting to whether Gaekwad can continue his rich vein of form with the bat in the forthcoming season of Indian Premier League.
On the other hand, Moeen Ali will be keen to provide utility with bat and ball this season. He has the ability to score runs at a brisk rate and can bowl off-spin in the Power play overs of the innings. After being retained by Chennai Super Kings for the coming IPL season, the team management will be hoping that he can deliver the goods with bat and ball.
