Sri Lanka will be looking to turn their fortunes around when they take on India in the three-match T20I series. The opening game of the T20I series will be played at Guwahati on 5th January. Veteran Lasith Malinga will lead Sri Lanka for this three-match series.
Promising players like Oshada Fernando, Avishka Fernando, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara and Bhanuka Rajapaksa will be looking to make an impression with bat and ball in this three-match T20I series. Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been in excellent form with the bat in the T20 format. He was instrumental in helping Sri Lanka clinch a historic whitewash over Pakistan in Pakistan. The team management will be hoping that the young players can step up to the plate and deliver the goods against Sri Lanka.
Let’s take a look at the three players that can make a big impact for Sri Lanka in this three-match T20I series.
Lasith Malinga is being termed as one of the best bowler in white-ball cricket in the modern era. The right-arm pacer is surely coming to the end of his career at the highest level and it is more than likely that he will say goodbye to international cricket after the upcoming World T20 later in the year. He is currently the leading wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the T20 cricket with 106 scalps at an average of 19.61 with two five-wicket hauls to his name. Captain Lasith Malinga will be looking to lead the way with the ball in this three-match T20I series. He will be looking to make amends for his poor record against India in the T20 format.
Therefore, it seems that this is Malinga’s last bilateral series against India and he will be eager to make it a memorable one—both on the personal as well as on the team level.
Dasun Shanaka is becoming a permanent stay in the Sri Lanka team, at least in the shorter formats. The 28-year-old has represented the Islanders in 35 T20Is in his career where he has managed to score 434 runs and has also 10 wickets to his name. He has shown tremendous form with the bat in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.
Dasun Shanaka is certainly one player that can produce quick runs for the side at the back end of the innings. He will be keen to make an impression with bat and ball against Sri Lanka in this three-match T20I series.
Kusal Perera is one of the most destructive batsman in the white-ball cricket in the world. However, the left-hander has not had a great 2019 where he struggled with injuries as well as with the lack of consistency as well. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if Perera can turn things around, that too against one of the best bowling attack in the world who will be missing their some of the regulars.
In 43 T20 matches, Perera has accumulated 1171 runs at an average of 27.88 with 11 half-centuries to his name. Left-hander will be looking to make notable contributions for the side in this three-match T20I series.
