India is scheduled to tour England to play one-off Test, three T20Is, and three ODIs, starting from 1st July at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The rescheduled schedule fifth Test will be played at Edgbaston from 1st till 5th July.
With Lokesh Rahul ruled out of the tour due to injury. Shubnam Gill has been added to the Test squad for the one-off Test. Mayank Agarwal is the other opening option for India for this one-off Test. After scoring five tons in English County Championship, veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has made a comeback to the Test squad.
Prasidh Krishna, Srikar Bharat and Hanuma Vihari are promising players included in the setup for the rescheduled fifth Test.
The Rohit Sharma-led unit is expected to play a four-day warm-up game against Leicestershire at Grace Road, Leicester from 23rd till 26th July.
Rohit Sharma has contracted covid-19 and is expected to make it for the fifth and final game of the Test series. Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer had a good outing with the bat in the warm-up game against Leicestershire.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubnam Gill, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant to deliver the bulk of the runs.
Last year, Rohit Sharma topped the batting charts for India in the four Test matches played against England. The opening batsman showed a lot of determination and temperament and accumulated 368 runs at an average of 52.57 with one century and one half-century.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur to deliver crucial breakthroughs.
In four matches played, premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has claimed 18 wickets at an average of 20.83 with one five-wicket haul to his name.
Besides the pace quartet, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are prominent spin bowling options for the rescheduled fifth Test.
Given the conditions at Edgbaston, the visitors will be tempted to be play either Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja.
On the other hand, England completed a 3-0 whitewash over New Zealand in a Test series played in England. With Brendon McCullum roped in as new head coach and Ben Stokes leadership skills, England have opted to play aggressive brand of cricket in the Test format.
The same core group of players have been selected for the fifth and final game of the Test series. In the three-match series against New Zealand, England’s premier batsman Joe Root once again topped the batting charts for England. In three matches played, Root has accumulated 396 runs at an average of 99.00 with two centuries and one half-century.
Besides Root, Jonny Bairstow showcased excellent form with the bat for England in the three-match series. In 3 matches played, Bairstow has scored 394 runs at an average of 394 runs at an average of 78.80 with two centuries and one half-century.
Debutant pacer Matty Potts topped the bowling charts for England in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand. Besides Potts, Left-arm spinner Jack Leach and James Anderson claimed 13 and 11 wickets respectively.
The conclusion of the one-off Test will see India then lock horns with England in a three-match T20I series. The opening game of the T20I series will be played at Southampton on 7th July, The second game of the T20I series will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 9th July. The third and final game will be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on 10th July.
The visitors will then take on England in a three-match ODI series, that will be played on three venues-The Oval, Lords and Manchester on 12th , 14th and 17th July respectively.
