Afghanistan tour to Zimbabwe 2022-[Preview]

Afghanistan is scheduled to tour Zimbabwe in the month of June to play three ODIs and three T20Is, starting from 4th June in Harare.

Host Zimbabwe have yet to announce their ODI and T20I squads for the home series against Afghanistan. It is expected that Zimbabwe will pick their full-strength side for the ODI and T20I series. On the other hand, Afghanistan have announced their ODI, T20 squads for the tour of Zimbabwe.

For the ODI series, Farid Malik, Shahidullah Kamal, Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan and Zia Ur Rahman Akbar are new players picked for Zimbabwe tour. Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the side for the three-match ODI series. Experienced players like Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rahmat Shah are included in the ODI squad.

For the T20I series, uncapped spinner Noor Ahmad, Ihsanullah Janat, Usman Ghani, Darwish Rasooli, and uncapped all-rounder Nijat Masood are faces in the squad for the Zimbabwe tour. Experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been named captain of the T20I side and will lead the side for the three-match series against Zimbabwe.

For the three-match ODI series, Afghanistan will be hoping to continue their decent form against Zimbabwe. In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Rahmat Shah, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shahidi to deliver the bulk of the runs.

Since 2nd June 2020, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has topped the batting charts for Afghanistan in limited-overs format. In nine matches played, Gurbaz has accumulated 428 runs at an average of 53.30 with three centuries to his name.

Besides Gurbaz, Rahmat Shah has shown decent form and has accumulated 394 runs at an average of 49.25.

In the bowling department, the side will be relying on Fazalhaq Farooqi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Farid Ahmad to provide timely breakthroughs.

Since June 2020, Leg-spinner Rashid Khan is leading the bowling charts for Afghanistan in limited-overs cricket. With 18 wickets in nine outings at an average of 19.66, Rashid Khan has been premier bowler for the side in the 50-over format. His spin partner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, is not far behind and has claimed 15 wickets at an average of 23.13.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe will be hoping that experienced player can come to the party with the bat and ball.

In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Wesley Madhevere and Regis Chakabva to deliver the bulk of the runs.

Since June 2020, Middle-order batsman Sean Williams has topped the batting charts for Zimbabwe in limited-overs cricket. Left-hander has accumulated 388 runs in nine innings at an average of 55.42 with two centuries and one half-century.

Besides Williams, the likes of Sikandar Raza, Wesley Madhevere, and wicket-keeper Regis Chakabva have made decent contributions with the bat for Zimbabwe in the 50-over format.

In the bowling department, the side will be relying heavily on the pace trio of Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava and Luke Jongwe to provide timely breakthroughs.

Since 2nd June 2020, Blessing Muzarabani has topped the bowling charts for Zimbabwe in limited-overs cricket. In 12 ODIs played, Muzarabani has claimed 21 wickets at an average of 25.28.

The three-match ODI series will be played at Harare Sports Club on 4th, 6th and 9th June. The three-match T20I series will be played at Harare Sports Club on 11th, 12th and 14th June.
