Afghanistan is scheduled to tour Ireland to play five-match T20I series, starting from 9th August at Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast.
The Afghanistan men’s national cricket team have announced their 16-member squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland. The visitors have selected their full-strength squad for the five-match T20I series. All-rounder Mohammad Nabi will lead the side for the five-match T20I series.
Hazratullah Zazai, Najibullah Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are prominent names in the batting department for Afghanistan.
Karim Janat, Azmatullah Omarzai, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad Malik and Naveen Ul Haq are five prominent pacers picked by Afghanistan for this five-match series. Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Noor Ahmad are spinners for Afghanistan for this T20I series.
The big setback for Afghanistan is premier off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has not issued a visa and has been added as a reserve player for the tour of Ireland. It will be interesting to see whether Mujeeb can play some part in the upcoming five-match T20I series against Ireland.
Since 1st August 2021, middle-order batsman Najibullah Zadran has shown excellent form for Afghanistan in the T20 format. In 10 T20Is played, Najibullah Zadran has accumulated 302 runs at an average of 37.75 with three half-centuries to his name.
Besides Zadran, Captain Mohammad Nabi has accumulated 232 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 126.08.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen Ul Haq and Mohammad Nabi to provide crucial breakthroughs.
Since 1st August 2021, Leg-spinner Rashid Khan has topped the bowling charts for Afghanistan. In 10 T20Is for Afghanistan, Rashid Khan has claimed 14 wickets at an average of 15.57. In the past 12 months, Rashid Khan has an excellent economy rate of 5.68, which is rarity these days in the T20 cricket, largely dominated by batsmen.
On the other hand, Ireland have named their full-strength squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. Uncapped players Fionn Hand and Stephen Doheny have earned their maiden call-ups to Ireland’s squad for the T20I series against Afghanistan.
Benny McCarthy, Joshua Little, Mark Adair, Craig Young and Curtis Campher are pace options for Ireland for the five-match series against Afghanistan. George Dockrell, Andy McBrine and Gareth Delaney are spin options for Ireland for the five-match T20I series against Afghanistan.
Since 1st January 2022, Captain Andrew Balbirnie has topped the batting charts for Ireland in the 20-over format. In 13 T20Is played for Ireland, Balbirnie has accumulated 328 runs at a strike rate of136.66. He has two half-centuries during this period.
Besides Balbirnie, middle-order batsman Harry Tector has showcased excellent form for Ireland and scored 249 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 139.88.
Since 1st January 2022, Medium pacer Craig Young has topped the bowling charts for Ireland in the T20 format. In 11 T20Is played, Craig Young has claimed 21 wickets at an economy rate of 7.58. Besides Young, Left-arm quick Joshua Little has taken 19 wickets in 12 innings at an economy rate of 7.83.
All the five-matches of the T20I series will be played at Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast on 9th, 10th, 12th, 15th and 17th August respectively.
